The Sonoma diet is a Mediterranean style diet, created by Connie Guttersen, a Registered Dietitian. The Sonoma diet is based on eating healthy, life-giving foods. There is no calorie counting, no certain amount of meals or times to eat. You just eat!

The weight loss program uses a unique method to measure the correct amounts of food. You have the plate and bowl size servings. You use a 9 inch plate for dinner which is the standard size dinner plate. Your meal is divided into three sections. The largest section makes up half the plate and contains your vegetables. The remaining half of the plate is then divided into two more sections–one section for your lean meat and the other section for your whole grains. The plate method is used for lunch and dinner.

The bowl method or a seven inch plate is used for breakfast. Like the nine inch plate your food groups are divided to give you the correct amount for each depending on the nutritional value and the need for the particular food group.

The Sonoma diet is divided in to three waves, and is similar to how the popular South Beach Diet divides their plan in phases. During wave one of the Sonoma diet the intention is to help you crave your non-nutritional food cravings. You can still enjoy carbohydrates in the complex form, just not the simple form which provide the most calories. This wave is designed to last for 10 days.

Wave two of the Sonoma weight loss plan is where you will lose the weight while eating a large variety of foods and even drinking a glass of wine if you desire. The amount of time this wave lasts depends on the amount of weight the individual has to lose.

The third and final wave is the maintenance wave and this wave will last for the duration of your life if you want to successful maintain your weight and eat healthier. The book contains all the information you need to get started and keep going it also has 300 recipes.

The Sonoma website has an additional 500 hundred recipes as well as meal planning, live support and shopping lists among several other tools to help you achieve your weight loss and maximum health.

A sample breakfast would be a mushroom omelet or a pear and buckwheat flour pancake. A sample lunch from the website would be a chicken and vegetable pita or a bowl of black bean soup. Of course dinner the main meal of the day you could have a grilled flank steak or Grilled bass with a fruit salsa. The deserts are all fruity with a cobbler or a tart. Snacks include nuts, grapes and several more which are all considered “power foods” that help aide in your weight loss.

The Sonoma diet is fairly new compared to many on the market; however, it is already making its mark in the weight loss world.
