There are four body types: spoon, hour glass, rectangle and triangle. The classically defined pear and apple shape body types are not considered a body type but more of a body fat classification; they are most often used when referring to a woman’s body.

The spoon body type is defined as the waist being smaller than the bust and the hips are a minimum of two inches smaller than the bust.

The hour glass body type is defined as the hips being nine inches or more smaller than the bust and hips and bust being approximately the same size.

The rectangle body type is defined as the hips and bust being the same size and the hips again are less than nine inches smaller than the bust.

The triangle body shape is a waist that is nine inches smaller than the bust and the bust is about three to three and a half inches larger than the hips.

The apple classification is brought to attention when a woman carries the majority of her fat in the stomach area. The breasts are usually much larger than a normal size woman’s and the hips and thighs are thinner. This shape is often referred to as top heavy. The weight loss plan for the apple classification is a diet low in carbohydrates.

The pear classification is brought to attention when a woman carries the majority of fat in the hips, buttocks and thighs. Which makes them bottom heavy. The weight loss plan that best fits this classification is a diet that is low in fat.

The apple and pear shape classifications are indicators for future health problems including heart disease and diabetes.

The three scientific body types are Endomorph Body Type in which the person has a heavier bottom half comparable to the pear shape on a much larger scale. To lose weight with this body type the person needs to limit sugar, processed and junk food as well as fats.

The second type is the Ectomorph Body Type this body type usually doesn’t have a problem with losing weight however, avoiding fatty foods is recommended. As this type has a higher risk for heart disease and artery diseases.

The third body type is the Mesomorph Body Type. This type should eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables along with lean meats.

Regardless of your body type a healthy diet and exercise program should be your goal whether you a overweight or trying to maintain your target weight.

Avoiding or at least liming the consumption of white foods including all that are made with flour and sugar should be limited. Vegetables should always be fresh or steamed never cooked to death! Fresh fruits and lean meats are the source of these two foods. Dairy products should be eaten in moderation and the fat content taken in to consideration while dieting.

A dietician is the best source of information to help design a diet to work with each body type and include a reasonable exercise plan.
